KPMG in Romania was pleased to host the conference Business and Culture in Perspective at the company’s Bucharest headquarters, focused on Turkish investment in Romania. The event was organised in conjunction with Türkiye’s Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK – Foreign Economic Relations Board), and the World Turkish Business Council (DTİK). The conference reflected Türkiye’s importance as a trading partner, as well as the potential for growth in Turkish investment in Romania. The event was opened by the Turkish Ambassador in Romania, H.E. Ozgur Kivanc Altan, whose address was followed by speeches by Ali Kibar – Chairperson of DEIK/Türkiye Romania Business Council, Ömer Süsli- Member of the Board, World Turkish Business Council, Sertaç Güner – Chief Commercial Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye, Guven Gungor – DTIK Romania Representative, Vicepresident DEIK/Türkiye-Romania Business Council and Sezgin Topçu – Partner, KPMG Türkiye.

Ramona Jurubita, Country Managing Partner, KPMG in Romania and Moldova gave a presentation setting out the macroeconomic context. She explained how Romania has enjoyed significant growth in recent years, with per capita GDP, for instance, rising 70% in the last six years. While growth has slowed recently, mainly due to geopolitical factors, there are nevertheless a number of positive macroeconomic trends in Romania and the CEE region which are boosting investors’ interest.

A business insight session followed, moderated by Burak YILDIRAN, CEO at Token Financial Technologies Romania, in which KPMG in Romania experts addressed several areas which are of interest to investors. Alin Negrescu, Partner, Tax Department outlined some recent and forthcoming tax changes, introduced as part of the government’s efforts to tackle the budget deficit. Tudor Grecu, Partner and Head of Advisory at KPMG in Romania, along with Daniel Pana, Partner, Tax Department gave valuable insights into state aid which could be available to Turkish investors. Madalina Racovitan, Partner and Head of People Services at KPMG in Romania, set out some key aspects of immigration, while sector specific topics were also considered. Panelists included Emine Coşkun – Vicepresident, Ford Otosan, Craiova; Guven Gungor – DTIK Romania Representative, Vicepresident DEIK/Türkiye-Romania Business Council; Mustafa Tiftikcioglu – CEO, Garanti BBVA Romania; Tudor Grecu, Partner and Head of Advisory at KPMG in Romania and Alex Mocanescu – Partner, KPMG Legal – Toncescu și Asociații.
