Today I spoke to Stirile ProTV (ProTV News) about the deepening jet fuel crisis and its direct impact on passengers and airline operations across Europe.

The numbers tell the story:
● Jet fuel prices have doubled since the escalation of the Middle East conflict
● 4 major airports in northern Italy (Milan Linate, Venice, Bologna and Treviso) have restricted fuel supply per aircraft to just ~2,000 litres until April 9
For context: an Airbus A320 burns between 2,500 and 3,400 litres per hour, a Boeing 737-800 approximately 3,200 litres per hour, meaning airlines are being given less fuel than needed for a single hour of flight
● Air tickets have risen 11.4% over the past year, with some routes already doubling in price compared to 2025

What this means operationally:
● Romanian carriers are already performing tankering (loading extra fuel at departure to guarantee the return flight) driving costs even higher. So far, no flights from Bucharest to Italy have been cancelled, but the situation is evolving daily.
● The request is clear: airlines need immediate engagement from national governments and the European Commission. This is not a single-operator problem, it is an industry-wide structural crisis that requires a coordinated response.
● Passengers: monitor your booking notifications closely. The next few days will be critical.
