Upon taking over the mandate as Chair of the Administrative Board of the European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), the priority was appointing a new director of the institution, following the withdrawal of Christian Zinglersen.
I am glad to inform that, after the final step — the statement held yesterday before the European Parliament’s ITRE Committee — Christof Lessenich was appointed Director of ACER, based on his excellent skills and experience in the field, elements that are vital for this new role aimed at ensuring the better functioning of European energy markets.
I wish him great success in this mandate, and I am confident that, together, we will ensure ACER fulfills its tasks, including those it will additionally receive as part of the legislative process to improve the interconnection of European electricity networks.
Although we had to choose from a very large number of candidates, many of them highly valued experts in their fields of expertise, the selection process unfolded without obstacles and in keeping with the timeline. This would not have been possible without the excellent cooperation between the European Commission (which carried out the pre-selection), the members of the Administrative Board (who chose the candidate), and the Board of Regulators, led by Emmanuelle Wargon of France and our colleague George Niculescu, president of Romanian NRA, who validated the candidacy. I thank them all.

La preluarea mandatului de preşedinte al Consiliului de Administraţie al Agenţiei pentru Cooperarea Autorităţilor de Reglementare din Domeniul Energiei, prioritatea a fost numirea unui nou director al instituției, după retragerea lui Christian Zinglersen.
Mă bucur că, după ultimul pas – prezentarea de ieri în fața Comisiei ITRE a Parlamentului European, Christof Lessenich a fost numit în funcția de director al ACER, pe baza abilităților și experienței sale excelente în domeniu – elemente vitale în noul rol care vizează asigurarea mai bunei funcționări a piețelor europene de energie.
Îi urez mult succes în acest mandat și sunt sigur că, împreună, vom face ca ACER să își îndeplinească sarcinile, inclusiv cele pe care va le primi suplimentar în cadrul demersului legislativ de îmbunătățire a interconectării rețelelor europene de electricitate.
Deși am avut de ales dintr-un număr foarte mare de candidați, mulți foarte valoroși, procesul de selecție s-a derulat fără obstacole și cu respectarea calendarului. Acest lucru nu ar fi fost posibil fără excelenta colaborare între Comisia Europeană (care a făcut preselecția), membrii Consiliului de Administrație (care au ales candidatul) și Consiliul Reglementatorilor, condus de Emanuelle Wargon din Franța si colegul nostru George Niculescu, care a validat candidatura.
