How can Romanians be among the strongest supporters of #EU membership while simultaneously embracing protectionist and sovereigntist preferences?
This apparent contradiction lies at the heart of a new article I co-authored with Loredana Vladu, PhD , Remus Ioan S., and Andreea Stancea. While recognizing that EU beliefs are often marked by ambivalence, our analysis goes a step further, exploring the conditions under which pro-European and sovereigntist orientations coexist and the moments when this fragile coexistence can break down into #cognitivedecoherence.
More broadly, the article seeks to raise awareness to the reality that, despite their consistently strong EU support, Romanian citizens are increasingly exposed to persistent cross-pressures and #cognitive attacks that slowly erode the coherence of their beliefs about the European Union, the United States, NATO, and the transatlantic partnership.
