📚✨ Book Presentation | VERIS Project, A CIVIS Open Lab
We are pleased to announce the presentation of the volume
Imagining Homeland: Palmyra’s (In)tangible Heritage and the Voices of Displacement
✍️ Edited by Patrick M. Michel and Oana Șerban
🏛️ Published by the Bucharest University Press (2026)
The presentation took place on the final day of the workshop held at the University of Lausanne:
“Workshops on the Importance of Culture and Heritage for Refugees. Resilience and Higher Education.”
This moment marked a meaningful conclusion to a collective reflection on heritage, displacement, and resilience within higher education contexts, bringing the volume into direct dialogue with ongoing academic and field-based discussions.
The book emerges from the VERIS research framework and explores the intersections between cultural heritage, memory, and forced migration. It engages with both tangible and intangible dimensions of Palmyra’s heritage, opening a space for interdisciplinary reflection on belonging, loss, and reconstruction.
🙏 Special gratitude and deep appreciation go to the team of the Bucharest University Press, and especially to Alex Nicolae, Director of the Press, whose support—together with Matilda Breazu, Emeline Daniela Avram, and Roxana Lăzărescu—made the publication of this book within the CIVIS Open Lab project possible under fast and outstanding conditions.
