On December 3, the Bucharest office of the German Marshall Fund of the United States hosted a working dinner on “Securing NATO’s Eastern Flank Through Transatlantic Cooperation in Defense and Industry”. The discussion brought together representatives from the Romanian Ministry of Economy and Defense (interim), Radu Miruţă, government and national defense industry, the U.S. Embassy Bucharest, along with representatives of the American defense industry, Northrop Grumman Corporation, focusing on enhancing local capabilities, fostering collaboration between U.S. and European partners, strengthening supply chains, and supporting innovation and research in defense-related industries.

Discussions were focused around the importance of investing in skilled personnel, promoting co-production and technology transfer in Romania, deepening U.S.-European defense industrial ties, and expanding research, innovation, and public-private partnerships to ensure sustainable and resilient defense capabilities.

We thank all participants for their insights and look forward to continuing this dialogue to reinforce regional security.
