At the first edition of the Delphi Economic Forum in Bucharest, I emphasized the need for a strategic dialogue between the Ministry of Energy, the regulatory authorities, and the private sector, so that Romania can keep pace with the new realities of the energy sector, strengthen its position as a regional player, and contribute to the completion of the Energy Union.
In recent years, we have witnessed a paradigm shift in the energy sector, driven by the rise of prosumers and the cyber risks associated with Russia’s war against Ukraine.
In this context, I drew attention to the fact that power grids—designed more than half a century ago for a unidirectional flow of electricity, from producer to industrial or household consumer—have become inadequate for today’s realities. I called for closer cooperation between the government, regulatory authorities, and private companies so we can modernize these networks and to define a regulatory framework that incentivizes private capital.
The need for grid investment is not a cost, but a commitment to energy security and to a competitive economy in the future.
